PP Joao Pinto In Cambodia sm

Our PP Joao Pinto was fortunate to be able to visit our Water Project recently and was pleased to report that our wells and toilet facility are in good condition and appreciated by the villagers.

In 2022, the Rotary Club of Macau engaged with the Cambodian Community Dream Organization (CCDO) to support three sanitation projects in rural and impoverished regions near the tourist hotspot of Siem Reap.
One of the projects was the construction of a basic latrine in Doun Ouv Village, located in the Leangdai commune. The latrine benefits a farmer’s family of three people, living with an average of less than $1 USD per day.

Before the latrine’s construction, the family had to walk 10-15 minutes to the nearest site for their daily hygiene needs. The latrine’s construction was completed on May 6, 2022, and besides the family, it is also used by two other people who live in the vicinity.

Another project was the repair of a water well in Taprok village, located in the Leangdai commune.
The well provides fresh water to a farmer’s family of four people, living with an average of less than $2 USD per day. Given that the pump well was only dug at a depth of ten meters, it become unusable as the water lop layers become contaminated. The family couldn’t afford to build a new water well nor fix their current one. To fetch clean water the family had to walk between 3 to 5 minutes to their neighbor’s well.

Water Pump Rotary Club of Macau in Angkor Thom

Our Rotary Club of Macau sponsored a water well in Angkor Thom.

The final project was the construction of a water well in Taprok village, located in the Leangdai commune. The well provides fresh water to a farmer’s family of eight people, living with a daily income of less than $3 USD. Previously, his family has to walk five to ten minutes to carry water from their neighbor’s well. As the family doesn’t have any big containers or large water-tank to store the water,  they had to travel the distance several times a day.
