47th Weekly Update

On 23rd May 2015, we attended the 55th District Training Assembly with 7 Rotarians joined, AG Synthia, PE Elizabete, IPP KC, PP Stella, PP Fatima, Rtn. Perry and me. It was a fruitful day with new knowledge of Rotary from the District. Certainly, PE ELizabete will apply and engage all on the new goal of ‘ Be a Gift to the World’ in the coming year. We heard the inspirational DGE Peter Pang’s speech and knew the direction of the district in this coming year. It’s more on youth service, focusing on career and vocational planning for the teenagers and early 20s group, a good news is our district will launch again RYLA.

Regarding to the Nepal earthquake, we received the thank you letter from DG Rabindra Plya from D3292 including Nepal & Bhutan. DG Plya on behalf of Rotarians from Nepal and the entire Nepal, thank you, Rotarians from RC Macau for the concerns and generous support at this perilous time. We also received a thank you note from Shelterbox updating on our Club’s USD3000 donated tents in Nepal.

On 28th May 2015, we are happy to have speaker Chris Song from the Association of Stories in Macau, accompanied by Professor Kit Kelen from the University of Macau. Chris shared with us his poetry study stay with Australia’s world-renowned Poet Les Murray whose trip we sponsored as part of our literacy and education project. Les Murray’s poetry works have been translated into 10 languages and Chris has been involved in the Chinese translation. Chris read out his Chinese translated poems of Les Murray who lives with his wife who is in a wheelchair and his 30 year autistic son. Chris’s understanding of Les Murray’s works was hugely enriched with the home-stay and helped his translation work significantly.

We had a visiting Rtn. Past AG Krishnan G Nair from RC Quilon, R3211, India saw our club meeting signboard at the Venetian convention complex when he was holidaying with his family. Well, he was well prepared with his club banner packed in the luggage ready to do make-up with visiting the city’s rotary clubs.

Jun 6-9 (Sat-Tue) – RI Convention at Sao Paulo, Brazil. Treasurer Ricardo will represent our club as well as Macau as he’s the only Macau Rotarian attending. Stay tuned for his sharing when he returns
