On the 18th of September, we were delighted to have PP Mitzi Leung and Rtn. Mei Ling is our guest speaker. PP Mitzi is the District Peace Committee Chair, Vice-President of UNESCO Hong Kong Association and Past President of Rotary of Hong Kong.
PP Mitzi and Mei Ling gave us a great presentation for introducing UNESCO. There are 195 members of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The purpose of UNESCO is to contribute to Peace and Security. To contribute to Peace, UNESCO has 5 major programs: Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture and Communication. Rotary have a similar concept to achieve Peace. Therefore, Rotary District 3450, UNESCO Hong Kong Association and together with other cultural organizations are hosting a “Fostering Global Citizenship Youth Program”. It aims to empower learners in engaging active roles both locally and internationally to face and resolve global challenges, to build a sense of global community and common humanity in the world and to become proactive contributors to a more just, peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure and sustainable world.
The 21st of September is World Peace Day. There is a kickoff ceremony at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center at 12:30 pm. Followed by entertainment programs including Mini International Food Bazaar and cultural performance. It welcomes Rotarians and friends to join.
