Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Well,  our VIP guest speaker Professor Wei Zhao, Rector of UMAC certainly was a huge draw! Last meeting saw total 61 turn-up ( 20 Rotarians, 3 guest school principals, 3 guests , 5 RAC rotaractors and 30 UMSU rotaractors !!!).

Prof Wei Zhao gave a very informative and inspiring talk on ‘ New Campus , New Mission’, sharing many interesting background facts on UM move to Hengqin. Some highlights for those who were not present:-

a)NEW CAMPUS

– Symmetry of the Pearl River. The impressive development of east side of the river which led China for 30 years.

– Now come the west side of the river, when in Jan 2009 the then Vice President Xi visit to Macao announced that ‘ the Central has decided to develop Hengqin’ , then the birth of new campus for UM.

– President Jingtao Wu on Dec 20, 2009 expressed to Rector Zhao ” I wish that the University of Macau become a first-class world university .

b) UM Reform

– UM launch a new education model to train students as a citizen , to discover new knowledge and put knowledge to practical use

– Focus on inside the classroom AND outside the classroom.

-Outside the classroom on community education . At this point, President KC commented  that involvement in Rotary community programs would be good training ground for this , to which Rector  echoed positively indeed.

Prof Wei Zhao talk ended with a big applause and our sincere thanks to PP Keith and Hon Member Anabela for giving us a rich introduction and a moving vote of thanks to the Rector respectively.
