On Thursday, we had a total of 20 Rotarians and Guests attending the Club’s regular meeting.

Among the guests were Hazel and Anson, two sweet little children guests of Rtn. Andy, Shelly, guest of IPP Ip’s, Amy, guest of PP Sam, and Laura, guest of Rtn. Constantino.

During the meeting, I had the opportunity to speak about the latest Rotary Virtual Convention initiative which was an online seminar on the topic of “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Rotary: How are we Doing?”

A top priority for Rotary is growing and diversifying our membership to make sure we reflect the communities we serve.

I believe that the Rotary Club of Macau is quite diverse, bringing together people from different cultural, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

This is something that enriches all of us.

However, one area in which our Club could do better is the inclusion of women since, currently, only 26.6% of our members are women.

This figure is better and the global average, but we need to improve.

If you have an interest in this topic, I strongly suggest watching the webinar which is available on the following link.

It only takes one hour!

I also plan to share a bit more on this topic on next’s newsletter.

As you all know, the District Installation took place on July 12.

Unfortunately, given the current travel restrictions, none of Area 1 Presidents were able to attend this important District event.

However, we were represented by PP Liz and PP Stella who shared the main topics of DG Eric Chak’s speech.

The key points are the focus on Health, Peace and Environment which will gear the District’s activity during this Rotary Year.

I don’t want to make this newsletter too long, but I still have to tell you all that IPP Ip was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow level +3 (3 Sapphires).

Congratulations IPP Ip for your commitment to Rotary.

Just a few more notes to tell you that all of you may settle your Club Dues. Conrad has prepared another tasty and visually appealing menu as you can see in this photo composition produced by our executive secretary Kula.

Finally, join us next Thursday, in-person or online via Zoom.

Yours in Rotary
President Joao
