70th Anniversary Ball May 6
We had an extremely successful Ball last Saturday with a record-high attendance of over 500 guests and members. We had DG Eric and 10 PDGs, CLO officers, government officials and 4 consul generals and consulate officers gracing our big event. We had 1 major sponsor, 4 diamond sponsors, 2 gold sponsors 1 silver sponsor and many others who supported us with cash donations and prizes and wine to make our ball a fruitful one.
Thanks to the effort of fellow Rotarians in helping to sell raffle tickets with Rotaractors and making our raffle sale a record high and our wine sale is a record high also. I’m sure, after the ins and outs transactions, our Ball Treasurer Rtn. Raymond would give us a “WOW” figure of the funds raised.

Check out our photo file here: Club Archive (Born this Way)

We must give a big thank you to Rtn. Li Ying who led a production crew of her ex-students, also our Rotaractors to produce a very nice video as the opening of the Ball. If you did not see enough, I’m sure it will be posted on our website later.

At the Ball, we recognized our senior members who served us for over 30 years. There are a total of 11 senior members:

  • PP Maneiras (51),
  • PP Eduardo (47),
  • PP Choi (44),
  • PP Peter (43),
  • PP Fred (40),
  • Rtn Lei Loi Tak (38),
  • PP Guy (35),
  • Rtn. Maeder (35),
  • PP Alfredo (34),
  • PP Ip (34), and
  • PP Gary (32).

Unfortunately, PPs Maneiras, ET, Alfredo and Rtn. Lei Loi Tak was unable to be there to be recognized.

We also signed the Friendship Club Agreement with RC Taipei Diamond. RC Taipei Diamond is the Club sponsored by our Sister Club, RC Taipei, 8 years ago at it’s Diamond Jubilee. Thus, the Club named Taipei Diamond. Our friendship developed when we paid our annual visit to our sister club in Taipei. So, you may visit our sister club or friendship if you visit Taipei.

I hope Pres. Sam will be able to get hold of the photos and video of our ball and play it tonight at the meeting.

For your information, our diamond sponsor, MGM, specified that their donation is for the Peru flooding relief and our wine sale would also be for this good cause. The Peruvian Consul General, Mr. Sergio Manuel Avila Traverso would come and speak to us on this issue on 25th May and there will be the cheque presentation then. Please mark your diary and next week YMCA will speak to us also.
