Rotary Annual Blood Donation Month Kicks Off

The “Rotary Blood Donation Month” organized by the 8 Rotary clubs in Macao and co-organized with the Blood Transfusion Service of the Macau Health Bureau will be held in April this year. A press conference was held on April 6. The theme of this year’s blood donation is to encourage young people to donate blood.

For more than 20 years, the Rotary clubs in Macao and the Blood Transfusion Service have jointly held similar activities every year to raise awareness among the public of the need of blood donation, so as to supplement the blood supply reserve in Macau. Public health has always been an important aspect of Rotary International’s many areas of focus.

Starting from 2020, the duration of the blood donation drive has been extended to one month. During the one-month blood donation campaign, more Rotarians, families and citizens are encouraged to donate blood.

The blood donation campaign jointly organized by various Rotary clubs and the Blood Transfusion Service in Macao was initiated in 2001 by Past President Alfredo Ritchie of the Rotary Club of Macau. In the past more than twenty years, this joint effort has created a considerable positive impact in the local community.

The 8 Rotary clubs in Macao are the Rotary Club of Macau, Rotary Club of Hou Kuong, Rotary Club of Macau Central, Rotary Club of Guia, Rotary Club of Macau Islands, Rotary Club of Amizade Macau, Rotary Club of Penha Macao, and Rotary Club of Oriental Pearl Macau.
