Contest for the promotion of mental health brings winners to Mongolia

Lam Ka Kam, from the Secondary School of S. José No. 6, and Ng Wing Sum, from Pui Ching High School, were winners of the speech contest and the “We Care, We Share” mental health program in Macao. The event, which aimed to promote the awareness of young people for mental health, took place at the Student Activities Centre of the University of Macau.
Winners will be able to participate in the Rotaract Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in Mongolia. This conference aims to broaden its international horizons at the District 3450 Peace Field of Rotary International in Hong Kong.
The “We Care, We Share” program and the speech contest were attended by more than 70 students who represented 20 schools. Throughout the competition, students have had lectures on mental health, oratory workshops, group training sessions and visits to Guangzhou. These activities have made us Ambassadors of Youth Mental Health Promotion, to which they have been awarded certification for their participation.
The event was co-organized by the Education and Youth Development Services and Macao Social Action Services, with the sponsorship of the Macao Foundation. It was also supported by different organizations, including the Macao Speakers Association, the Macao Rotary Club and the YMCA of Macau. Representatives from the University of Macau, the Macao Speakers Association, the Macao Psychological Association and several Macao Rotary Clubs were among the guests.
During the event, Elvo Sou, the assistant governor of District 3450 of Rotary International, emphasized the importance of empowering young people and stated that a strong youth leads to a strong nation. Elvo expressed his hope that this activity can improve the psychological well-being of young people, develop their public speaking skills, promote positivity and improve the mental health of the community.
