Become An Honorary Rotarian of Rotary Club of Macau
Macau, 10 June 2011 – President Teren Cheong of Rotary Club of Macau and his club members visited the Consul-General of Japan, Yuji Kumamaru in Hong Kong recently to present a cheque of HK$100,000 as disaster relief for the earthquake in Japan and invited him to be an honorary member of The Rotary Club of Macau.
President Teren introduced him the services carried out by the Club as well as the activities carried out by the Club and their sister club in Japan, Rotary Club of Kyoto Nishiyama. Chartered in 1947, Rotary Club of Macau is a member of Rotary International. Rotarians of the Club are originate from various nations, including Chinese, Portuguese, British, Canadian, German, French, Deutsch, South African, Japanese, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Australian, within this international club the major means of communication is English. In the past, the Club provided services in Macau and contributed to the medication to fight cancer, as well as projects and donations for the Vietnamese Refugee Camp and the orphanages. The Club supports education for the mentally and physically challenged, raising funds and organizing activities for students with a single parent and others in Macau. For the past 10 years, the Club has worked jointly with Rotary Club of Kowloon North in Hong Kong, establishing and renovating one middle school and seven primary schools at DuAn County in GuangXi Province. With the support of Macau Foundation, the Club has purchased two mobile dental units to carry out dental checkups for the needy in Macau as well as the students in GuangXi.
Mr. Kumamaru appreciated the services carried out by the Club and became an honorary member of the Club. Indeed, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, the Past Chief Executive Officer of the Macau Special Administrative Region, Anabela Ritchie, the past chairlady of the Legislative Council of Macau, and Father Lancelet Rodrigues are also honorary members of the Club. This ceremony was attended by the Immediate Past President David Shelton-Smith, President Elect Keith Pharis, Past Presidents: Fred Palmer and Kazuyoshi Noguchi, Vice President Thomas Luong and Rotarian Margaret Bou.
