PP Florence Hui

Being installed as the first Rotaract Club President-turned-Rotary Club President in one’s mother club in Macau in Rotary Year 2008/2009. “Make Dreams Real” was the RI theme so this was a dream made real for a Rotaractor-turned-Rotarian.

Chartered Rotaract Club of University of Macau Student’s Union on 6 Nov 2008 (also the birthday of PP Alfredo Ritchie)

Being the Secretary to monthly Joint President Meeting of RI District 3450 and attended 100% of the meeting.

Club was very busy but enjoyed great fellowship. To facilitate communication about Rotary’s and club’s information, I prepared an E- newsletter known as “President’s Biweekly” to spread news and information rather than sending emails.

It was the year that our Club began to meet at The Venetian-Macao-Resort-Hotel.

Our submission in Rotary Year 2007/2008, Joint Matching Grant Project with The Rotary Club of Tuul, Mongolia and seven clubs from Korea (District 3630) “To Equip A Computer Teaching Room in Mongolia” at a total value of USD 20,000 was approved in Rotary Year 2008/2009. As one of the international partners, The Rotary Club of Macau contributed USD1,000 towards this project.

We supported John and Iris, two single parent children to join a Rotary Summer Camp in RI District 1050 & 1080 (UK) to broaden their horizons in August 08.

Vocational Visit & Meeting at The Venetian with 40 Rotarians and guests. We were impressed by the smart staff laundry service which handled 7000 – 8000 pieces of laundry daily, the largest kitchen in Macau, nice staff recreation area and certainly the delicious food at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel on 25 Sept 2008.

Rotary Club of Macau chartered another the Rotaract Club of University of Macau Student’s Union on 6 Nov 2008 (which was also the birthday of PP Alfredo Ritchie). The 43 charter members, including Charter President Natalie Lam were recruited to support a community service project carried out by Rotaract Club of Macau – “Bring Love to GuangXi Province”. The said project was supported by District Simplified Grant.

For the 9th consecutive year, Rotary Club of Macau and the Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped held a joint Christmas Party on 12 Dec 2008. 2008/2009 DG Albert Wong has also joined us.

PP Fatima Ferreira was Awarded “Rotarian of the Year” for Organising District Conference on July 11th 201. As District Conference Chair, PP Fatima Ferreira organized the 49th District Conference “Manage and Realize Change” at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel which highly involved our two daughter clubs: Rotaract Club of Macau and Rotaract Club of University of Macau’s Student Union as service partners on 21-22 Feb 2009. Edmund Ho, the Honourable Chief Executive of Macau SAR by then attended and made an official address for the Conference.

Rotary Club of Macau inaugurated Rotary International Hua Lai Primary School in Du’ An County of GuangXi Province with Mr. Johnny Zhuang Yan who represented Sai Hang Telecom on 21-22 March 2009. The said company has contributed MOP$350,000 for the renovation of the Primary School.

Rotary Blood Donation Day, a Joint Area Project organised by 6 Rotary Clubs in Macau on 8 Feb 2009, the project has won RI’s Best Cooperative Service Project Award.

Vitarobics Contest Co-organize with the other five Rotary Clubs Macau on 25 Oct 08.

At the District Awards Ceremony on 6 June 2009, Rotary Club of Macau received SEVEN of the following District Awards:

  1. BEST Rotary Family Project – District Conference
  2. OUTSTANDING Public Relations Project – Joint Blood Donation Day
  3. OUTSTANDING Child Mortality Project – Joint Seminar on Preventing Child Mortality organized by 6 Clubs in Macau
  4. Merit for Literacy and Education Project – Officially opened a new primary school in Du An
  5. Merit for Community Service Project –
  6. New Rotaract Club Sponsorship – Rotaract Club of University of Macau Student’s Union
  7. Highest Participation (in numbers) – District Conference 2008/2009
