Rotary Club of Macau Holds Contest To Increase Youth’s Awareness Of Environmental Protection

Macau, China – February 11, 2022: Organized by the Rotary Club of Macau, and supported by Sands China Ltd. and Green Future Macau, the opening ceremony of the “Together We Go Eco: Our Carbon Neutral City Design Contest” was successfully held at The Venetian Macao’s Adelson Advanced Education Centre Saturday, February 11, 2023. The contest aims to raise awareness of carbon neutrality among young people and to arouse their creativity to realise Macau’s vision of a carbon-neutral city.

Environmental protection is one of the key focuses of the Rotary Club. Our daily lives produce either more or fewer carbon emissions anytime and anywhere. Not only will this affect our living environment but also profoundly change our future. The Rotary Club of Macau aims to promote the concept of carbon neutrality to university students in Macau through this contest. After learning the concept of carbon neutrality, participants will creatively design carbon-neutral schemes for community measures to promote Macao’s sustainable development and to achieve a carbon-neutral city. As of the application closing date, February 9, a total of 27 teams with 76 local students signed up for the contest.

A total of 40 local university students and members of the Rotary Club of Macao attended the opening ceremony, where Joe Chan, vice president of Green Future, gave a keynote speech entitled “Remember our footprints”. Sands China’s associate director of sustainability, Stephanie Zhao, then highlighted some of the achievements of the Sands ECO360 global sustainability strategy for the students. After the speech, participants joined a Sands China Sustainability Tour. By visiting Sands China’s various sustainable facilities, participants learned about the company’s global vision and its practical application on the local level for environmental protection.

All teams must submit their creative proposals before March 11, 2023, and present their final designs at The Venetian Macao’s Adelson Advanced Education Centre on March 25, 2023. On the same day, the judges will review the projects on their creativity, uniqueness and utility. The winner will be announced accordingly.
