Nationwide Coverage and by Facility Type
Red River Delta
• 337 staff trained across 11
provinces, with a 95% overall pass
rate.
• Provinces like Hanoi, Thai Binh, and
Nam Dinh achieved a 100% pass
rate.
Key Regional Achievements
Northern Midlands &
Mountain Areas
• 145 staff trained in 14 provinces.
• 100% pass rates in remote
provinces like Dien Bien, Lai Chau,
and Ha Giang demonstrate the
program’s success in hard-to-reach
areas.
North Central & Central
Coastal Areas
• 219 staff trained, with Da Nang and
Quang Nam achieving 100% pass
rates.
• Thua Thien – Hue had one of the
largest contributions, training 101
healthcare staff.
Central Highlands
• 17 staff trained, with 100% pass
rates in provinces like Gia Lai and
Lam Dong.
• Additional focus needed for provinces
like Kon Tum (50% pass rate).
South
• 115 staff trained in urban and rural
areas, including 90 in Ho Chi Minh
City with a 96% pass rate.
Mekong River Delta
• 71 staff trained in 13 provinces.
• 100% pass rates in most provinces,
though provinces like Ben Tre require
further attention (60% pass rate).

• measuring temperature and blood glucose on admission
• earlier use of surfactant (usually by INSURE but some instances of
LISA)
• Blood cultures before starting antibiotics
• 13 Doctors from 3 major Hanoi hospitals
• Education intervention impacting 13,000 babies a year

Impact of optimal thermal care
• Help maintain temperature by applying hat and delivering into
plastic bag
• Early hypothermia increases the risk of death (28% increase in
mortality for every degree ↓)
